Fire damages Sixth Street house in Port Huron

Fire and police officers are investigating the cause of a fire that severely damaged a vacant house on the 1400 block of Sixth Street in Port Huron Port Huron Fire Capt. Jeff Tucker said the fire was reported about 5:09 a.m. Friday. "There was fire showing on the first floor rear of the building with extension into the second floor," he said. Port Huron received mutual aid from the Sarnia and Marysville fire departments. Port Huron hires 2 new firefighters Tucker said no one was injured. The building was boarded up and vacant. Firefighters, he said, were able to knock down the flames within a half hour of arriving. They still were on the scene just before 8 a.m. Port Huron Police Sgt. Brian Kerrigan said neighbors called 911 to report the fire. He said responding officers found flames when they arrived at the scene. Tucker said the rear of the building had severe fire and smoke damage.
