A 53-year-old man was hospitalized after falling from a stepladder at the McLaren Port Huron construction site. Port Huron Fire Battalion Chief Mark Ford said the accident happened about 7:43 a.m. Tuesday. The man was about halfway up the ladder, Ford said, when he fell and struck his head on a concrete surface. The accident was on the top floor of the new patient tower being constructed at the hospital. Ford said firefighters and EMTs from Tri-Hospital EMS immobilized the man as a precaution in the event of a spinal injury and placed him a basket. They lowered the man by crane to an EMS crew waiting on the ground, he said. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Ford said the man was conscious and speaking.
