The Marquette Township Fire Department will soon have safer, better communication during emergencies. Fire Chief Ron DeMarse announced the department had received a $98,722 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program during a department update Tuesday at a Marquette Township Board meeting. The MTFD will be responsible for the 5 percent match for the grant, which amounts to $4,936, DeMarse said. The award will be used to purchase 17 to 20 dual-band portable radios, he explained.
