The volunteer fire departments at Monroe and Ida townships have received a new fire truck and other necessary equipment thanks to federal grants that total hundreds of thousands of dollars. Monroe Township has a new rescue pumper in operation that was obtained through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Supervisor Alan Barron said the 2017 Pierce Arrow XT rescue pumper costs almost $628,000 and the federal grant covered more than $476,000 of the price. The township’s board of trustees agreed to cover the remaining costs of $151,767.
