Mike Kennedy, who was recently hired as an assistant chief for the Ann Arbor Fire Department, is now transitioning into the department's top position.
The City Council voted unanimously this week to officially make Kennedy the city's new fire chief effective May 1.
Kennedy joined the AAFD as an assistant chief in December following a statewide search.
He was selected for the fire chief position following an internal search that involved the city administrator, fire department personnel, service area administrators and other city staff.
Before coming to Ann Arbor, Kennedy simultaneously served as South Lyon's fire chief and as a senior emergency management specialist with the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security from 2010 to December 2017.
