An Otsego County man and his wife are safe after a fire tore through their home in Hayes Township Monday afternoon. It happened on Van Tyle Road around 2 p.m. The Otsego County fire chief says the man heard a pop in the basement and shortly after they could smell smoke. Fire crews say there is serious damage to the home, but both the homeowner and his wife made it out OK. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
