The Shelby Township Board of Trustees approved a 10 percent increase to the cost of building the new Fire Station No. 4 after additional costs rolled in since the project broke ground last November.
Construction on the new fire station was approved last July by the board at a cost of $1,999,044. The new building will be located on the northwest corner of Schoenherr and 25 Mile roads, about 1.5 miles north of the current Fire Station No. 4.
At the April 3 board meeting, Fire Chief Jim Swinkowski said that since the cost approval, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has informed the township that a retention pond needs to be put on the north end of the property.
