The Dearborn Fire Department, which also serves the city of Melvindale, received a $592,215 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant that was announced recently.
The grant, announced Aug. 1, has a 10 percent required match from the city, giving the Fire Department about $650,000 for training, and new equipment.
“We are very appreciative of federal grant monies that help us maintain our equipment and training,” Fire Chief Joseph Murray said.
The department, which recently received a contract to continue providing fire services to Melvindale, is in need of new and updated equipment. Most of the department’s newer equipment has been funded through grants, including a new ladder truck purchased in 2017.
