As the temporary closure of Chesterfield Township’s fire station on Jefferson Avenue continues to draw pushback, officials are stressing the building is one of many township facilities in need of repair. Chesterfield Township Operations and Facilities Maintenance Director Joshua Sonnenberg presented a brief outline of issues at sites including fire station 2, the police station, the municipal offices, the youth center and two township parks at the board of trustees’ Aug. 6 meeting. Fire station 2 was temporarily closed last month due to safety concerns involving structural and electrical issues. The move followed an intermittent “brown out” of the station that began in September 2017. Several residents and members of the firefighters union have been urging the board to reopen the station, with many voicing concerns about response times with fire department staff being relocated from fire station 2.
