He's a native of Battle Creek, but has served fire departments from California to Virginia; now, Brian Sturdivant is preparing to lead Battle Creek's department.
With 25 years of experience as a firefighter and department manager, Sturdivant is expected to start work in Battle Creek on Sept. 24.
"I am very humbled and excited to be selected as the next fire chief in Battle Creek," Sturdivant said in a written announcement on his hiring. "My transition into the city organization and fire department will be very collaborative, positive, and productive. It is truly my professional honor to have the opportunity to work with and for its dedicated staff and personnel."
