Flint Township's firefighters honored the first man to lead their department.
Fire Station One was dedicated and named after Chief Jack Maxwell who was the township's first full-time fire chief and Congressman Dan Kildee's late grandfather.
Maxwell was known for his efforts to promote public safety by increasing the number of fire captains and making sure that buildings were no more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant.
His family and son, Ed Maxell, was on hand for Thursday's dedication.
"We appreciate his dedication. This just brings back memories of all the years we watched him and listened to him serve the community and do it with pride and love. He just taught us a lot," said Maxwell. Chief Maxwell was raised in Flint and served with the Flint Township Fire Department for 25 years.
