A retired local fire official may be on deck to replace Port Huron Township’s departing fire chief. When asked on Wednesday, Supervisor Bob Lewandowski confirmed the township has been talking with former Port Huron fire chief Dan Mainguy and a handful of other candidates. Fire Chief Craig Miller announced last month he was leaving for a position in Chesterfield Township. Lewandowski said he was getting ready to make a hiring recommendation to the township’s board at its meeting Monday and declined to name the finalist or how much he would be paid. “That’s the thing we’re working on now. The chief’s position is a union position, and we’re discussing with the union how we’re going to handle this,” Lewandowski said. “Other than that, they’re local and that they’ve got plenty of experience.”
