Fire officials continue to explore the cause of a fire that destroyed a half-million-dollar home on Bear Lake earlier this week.
Flames were shooting out the roof of the home on Westwind Court when firefighters arrived on the scene, said Muskegon Township Fire Chief Dave Glotzbach. A neighbor had called in the fire around 10 p.m. Feb. 20, he said.
The family that lives in the home in the 1500 block was not home at the time. Laketon Township has the value of the home, which was a total loss, listed as $508,000, Glotzbach said.
About 25 firefighters battled the blaze that began on the second story, Glotzbach said.
