New Buffalo Township showed its appreciation to retiring Fire Chief Ed Lijewski during a reception at Township Hall on Friday, Jan. 5. Joining in were first responders from nearby communities, Berrien County Sheriff Norm Bailey and Undersheriff Chuck Heit, elected officials, family and community members and even the thanks and well wishes from the City of Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Sanitago, presented by old friend Jesse Wilson. Lijewski was honored for his 18 years as captain of the township fire department, bringing it from near dissolution to the current force of 18 well trained officers, according to Township Supervisor Michelle Heit.
