Several departments responded to a structure fire in Lake County late Wednesday night.
The fire happened on N. Lakola Road in Ellsworth Township, near East 4-mile road.
The Luther Fire Department reports the 79-year-old homeowner, Evelyn Ware, died in the fire.
Ware was a former member of the Lake County Sheriff's Posse, and the former director of Pine River Schools Transportation.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and the state Fire Marshall has been called to investigate.
