On June 24, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police awarded the department with accreditation status, an honor shared by only 14 other law enforcement agencies in the state. ... The department’s other recent milestone was achievement of an upgraded ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating, improved to Class 3 from Class 5 for the first time ever, on its scale of 10-1. “The improved ISO may reduce insurance premiums for commercial and residential structures citywide,” Clason stated. “It will also makes this city more desirable for businesses and home buyers looking to move to a safer, more capable community.” The rating ranks the department among the the top 3 percent of all fire departments in the United States, Clason said. It also places Bloomfield Hills public safety as one of only three departments with a Class 3 rating or higher as of June 1, in Michigan.
