There were two grass fires Monday in Branch County. The first alarm came in at 11:00 a.m. with the Quincy Fire Department dispatched to North Fremont Road, just north of US 12, near Kasey Lane in Quincy Township. The Coldwater Fire Department was called on as well for mutual aid. It was a planned burn that got out of control because of the dry conditions and initially threatened a nearby building. However, firefighters were able to water down the area and quickly had the blaze put out by around 11:15 a.m. The Coldwater Fire Department cleared the scene five minutes later while Quincy worked at dousing a number of hot spots and finished up about 12 noon.
