Firefighters are hoping a tour of their current fire hall on East Third Street will convince Imlay City voters of the need to pass a 2.0323-mill general obligation unlimited tax bond when they go to the polls Aug. 7. The 19-man Imlay City Fire Dept. will hold an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 21) at the fire hall. Fire Chief Rick Horton said over the years as the size of firefighting vehicles and the complexity of firefighting has grown, the city’s fire hall has become more cramped. He noted the fire hall’s lone bathroom doubles as a laundry room and storage area. When the department bought its used 1997 aerial truck, it had to pass up several other better vehicles because they were too tall to get in the building. Earlier this year the city purchased 2.66 acres from the DNR just east of Chemical Bank on South Cedar Street and Davison’s H2A Architects has designed a 12,000-square foot building.
