As a serial arsonist continues setting vehicles on fire, Bay County law enforcement have formed a coalition to extinguish his fiery habit.
The Arson Task Force comprises four investigators, one each from the Bay County Sheriff's Office, the Bay City Department of Public Safety, the Hampton Township Police Department, and the Michigan State Police. Sheriff Fire Investigator Jeff Wolpert serves as the lead of the task force.
Authorities formed the task force to streamline and consolidate their efforts, to investigate tips, and to ensure each agency is on the same page, said Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham. Since April 7, 10 vehicle arsons have been reported throughout Bay County, with four occurring in Hampton Township and six in Portsmouth Township.
