A large storage structure was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon in northeast Washtenaw County. Fire crews were called to the structure on fire at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, in the 7300 block of Chubb Road, Salem Township Fire Chief Jim Rachwal said. The 30-by-100-foot building was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, Rachwal said. Firefighters were concerned the fire would spread to a nearby lot used to store campers and worked to contain the blaze, which was knocked down in about 30 minutes, Rachwal said. The fire appeared to have been started by a downed power line near the building, Rachwal said. No injuries were reported. The unit was filed mostly with ceiling tiles and power tools, Rachwal said. Ann Arbor Township Fire, Lyon Township Fire, Superior Township Fire, Northfield Township Fire, Northville Township Fire, the Northville Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance, Hart Medical and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
