A Michigan State Police fire investigator has been called in to help determine the cause of a house fire that left one person dead Thursday night in Flint Township. Firefighters with the Flint Township Fire Department responded around 10 p.m. June 14 to the 2400 block of Thornton Avenue off Dayton Street for a residential structure fire. Flint Township fire Chief Thomas Stadler said the firefighters discovered "heavy fire involvement" in the back half of the single-story home when they arrived a few minutes later. Personnel attempting to make entry into the home encountered a dead-bolted front door that forced firefighters to use a pry tool called a Halligan bar to get inside the structure. "Once we did make entry, we did confirm there was a fatality in the residence," he said. Arcing power lines over the house and a burned gas line also created some obstacles for firefighters.
