The Charlevoix Township Board of Trustees renewed its city ambulance contract and insurance coverage for its firefighters Monday. During Monday’s meeting, the board unanimously approved the city’s proposal for $29,783 to provide EMS services for township residents. City EMS coverage is based on a formula that takes into account the number of calls, taxable value, population and registered 911 addresses, said Gerard Doan, Charlevoix Fire and Police chief. “It is the same formula we use with all of the townships,” Doan said. “It allows us to provide quality EMS services to our portion of Charlevoix County.” Charlevoix EMS serves the city, Charlevoix Township, Hayes Township, Marion Township, Norwood Township, and a portion of Eveline Township. City officials enjoy their working relationship with each of the townships, said Mark Heydlauff, city manager. “The great partnership we have with the different municipalities helps us provide EMS services that are good for our patients that we look forward to continuing in the years to come,” Heydlauff said.
