Michigan Department of Natural Resources crews and volunteer firefighters were called to a small wildfire in northern Luce County Wednesday afternoon.
Smoke was reported at 1:36 p.m. in the area of Pretty Lake and County Road 416, about 25 miles north of Newberry.
According to Celeste Chingwa of the Michigan DNR, five DNR units were sent out, along with two trucks from the Newberry Fire Department.
Chingwa said preliminary estimates are that a lightning strike from storms a few days ago began the fire. She said sometimes, in wooded areas, it can take a couple days for a fire to be noticed by someone.
As of about 3 p.m., the estimated five-acre fire was mostly contained.
