Authorities are calling two separate fires that started on a property in Algoma Township Friday morning suspicious. The fires broke out around 7 a.m. in the 12000 block of Algoma Avenue between 14 Mile and 15 Mile roads in Algoma Township, north of Rockford. The Algoma Township fire chief said authorities determined the fires were started inside a barn and house on the property. Authorities originally said there were three separate fires, but upon further investigation determined the barn fire spread to a shed. The Algoma Township fire chief said the fire is "suspicious." All are within in yards of each other, but firefighters said they don't know which was started first. Algoma Avenue is closed between 14 Mile and 15 Mile roads. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
