Members of the Clay Township Fire Department Advisory Committee are hoping better information will cool the debate over emergency services on Harsens Island.
“When this came to our attention, there was a lot of nonsense and misinformation,” committee chairman Patrick Fieghan said. “Our goal was to get information so people could understand.”
The committee, which was formed following a contentious August meeting about fire services on the island, presented the results of their fact-finding work to the community at an informational meeting held at the Harsens Island Lions Club on Nov. 14.
Committee member Bernardo Licata walked through a slideshow of more than 50 pages of statistics on levels of service, call frequency and response times on Harsens Island and across Clay Township as a whole, addressing what he described as a “complex topic” from multiple angles.
