State Fire Marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer is meeting with Saginaw Fire Chief Christopher Van Loo and other fire officials to address issues and concerns related to firefighting foam that contain PFAS. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS or PFCS, are contaminating water sources across the country, including right here in mid-Michigan. The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team, which Sehlmeyer is apart of, is aware that certain foam used during fire suppression and firefighter training has the potential to be the source of PFAS found in ground water in Michigan communities.
