After 23 years as a full-time firefighter, Dan Kelly has been promoted to the rank of captain. Kelly, formerly a sergeant with the Flint Township Fire Department, was sworn in as captain at the Flint Township Board of Trustees meeting, Oct. 15. A Flushing High School graduate, who attended Northern Michigan University and Lake Superior State University, is a certified fire investigator, certified fire and explosion investigator and a certified evidence collection technician. Fire Chief Thomas Stadler said Kelly has received additional training in the National Incident Management System and Fire Officer III Certification from the Michigan Firefighters Training Council. He has also been active with hydrant maintenance and serves as the Hydrant Maintenance Supervisor. “As we continue to move forward, positive leadership is essential on all levels in the fire department,” said Stadler. “Therefore, I am respectfully requesting that the Township Board of Trustees approve the promotion of Sgt. Dan Kelly to fire captain.”
