Some Alpena City Firefighters had a reason to celebrate today after receiving promotions within the department. Firefighters James Stachlewitz and Mike Sanders were promoted to lieutenant, former lieutenant Harry Knopp was promoted to captain, and lieutenant Andy Marceau was promoted to Community Risk Reduction Officer. Each member honored in the ceremony has been with the department over 20 years. Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Bob Adrian says the promotions were needed to fill vacancies and keep the department running smoothly. He also says the added position of risk reduction officer is a critical one. “The importance of the Community Risk Reduction Officer is to take fire safety out into the community at a higher level than what we currently do."
