Bethany Link’s dedication to the Gaines Township Fire Department, and to her community, have earned her the department’s Firefighter of the Year award for 2018.
“She’s very, very active in the department,” said Fire Chief Joe Hyrman. “She helps out whenever anyone asks her.”
Link joined the township fire force in August 2015 to make a difference in her community.
“If I can go into someone’s life and make it a little better when they’re going through things that are terrifying to them, I’m doing my part,” she said.
Link would like to see more people make contributions, in their own ways, to their communities.
“I would love to see other people get more involved,” she said. “It’s important to be active in your community and do what you can to help others. It’s important for young people to get involved and for older people and parents to show them how, to lead by example."
