The Bemidji City Council unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night to request authority from the state Legislature for local government units in Minnesota to assess property within their jurisdictions for the benefit of their fire departments. In the Bemidji area, special assessments to all properties could fund a fire district that would comprise the city of Bemidji and surrounding municipal areas, primarily townships.
