A New Ulm woman allegedly started two fires in her apartment and then assaulted police officers.
Tanya Marie Lieder, 36, was charged Tuesday with felony arson, felony assault on a police officer and gross misdemeanor obstructing the legal process.
New Ulm firefighters extinguished a fire Saturday night in Lieder's unoccupied apartment at 509 Center St. A state fire marshal found two distinct points of origin and ruled the fire arson, according to the criminal complaint.
Lieder arrived at her residence early Sunday morning. Before police officers could ask about the fire, Lieder told them they couldn't prove anything. Lieder allegedly shoved one of the officers and was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. After she was released, she refused to give a statement.
