Practice makes perfect, and firefighters are no exception.
That's why on Tuesday, more than a dozen members of the Rochester Fire Department took part in a live burn, putting out a fire they started.
"There's just no substituting the simulation that you get in an actual residence where you're not familiar with the layout, with the actual heat and smoke that comes with a real residential fire, so this is great practice," said Capt. Brett Knapp.
The home ablaze in southwest Rochester was set to be demolished, but the owner was willing to let the fire department use it for training first.
