If you're driving around the streets of Austin and you see firefighters standing around at the intersection, don't become alarmed. The Austin Fire Department is once again using boots to support local families affected by neuro-muscular diseases. At various locations around Austin, firefighters are holding out boots to collect donations to raise funds that will be critical in the treatment of these diseases. The volunteer program is called Fill The Boot. The Austin Fire Department is a partner of the Muscular Dystrophy Association supporting the rights of families give opportunities to those living with diseases such as muscular dystrophy or ALS. They're collecting money from drivers and pedestrians as a way to give neuro-muscular diseases the boot, something fire fighters say they love doing.
