Fire destroyed a cabin and bunkhouse along the Lake Superior shoreline in Cook County on Tuesday evening. A 911 caller reported a structure engulfed in flames at 6:20 p.m. The fire was at 4 County Road 34 (Rollins Creek Road) in Lutsen Township. Firefighters from the Lutsen, Tofte, Schroeder, and Grand Marais fire departments responded to the scene, along with U.S. Forest Service fire units due to the potential of fire spreading into the surrounding forest. Firefighters filled water tanks at the emergency hydrant at Lutsen Resort to shuttle water to the fire scene. The fire was 80 percent contained by 7:11 p.m. and was no longer considered at risk of spreading. No one was injured, but the cabin and bunkhouse are believed to be a total loss.
