Former Red Wing Fire Chief Tom Schneider died Saturday. He was 55. Schneider started as a volunteer with the Red Wing Fire Department in 1984 and worked several positions before becoming chief in 2008. He retired in 2016. Schneider was a major force behind getting a second fire station in Red Wing. That station, located in the Burnside area at U.S. Highway 61 and Aspen Avenue, is currently under construction. Schneider worked on the project from the time he became chief until his retirement.
