A single-story house sustains major damage after an overnight fire in rural Dodge County. The owner of the home called to report the fire just after midnight Friday morning, according to authorities on scene. The home is located at 67523 270th Avenue, between Byron and Kasson, south of Highway 14. First responders arrived to find the people inside the home already out. They cut power to the home and were able to control the fire, which included the garage. Crews on scene say the house is likely a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, although it's not considered suspicious. According to Sgt. Shannon Boehner with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the family was able to save some items from the home. Dodge Center Ambulance, Kasson Fire, and Hayfield Fire also responded. The state fire marshal has been notified to begin an investigation.
