There are many retired Garrison fire fighters still living in the area that remain active in the community, Garrison mayor Cathy Thompson said during the regular city council meeting on Tuesday, July 10. But the Garrison Fire Relief Association has voted to give only some of the retirees dedicated jackets. “That is causing a lot of hard feelings,”?Thompson said. Thompson added she understands the city has no authority over the relief association as they are an individual non-profit organization. The GFRA board of directors voted recently to provide retiree jackets to only the retired firefighters who attended a particular breakfast earlier this year. Those who did not attend are not to receive jackets.
