Firefighters are spending today on the water for rescue and recovery training.
The Rochester fire department has 3 different boats at their disposal, all with different strengths and weaknesses.
The watercraft are spread across the area so the closest crew can be quickly dispatched.
The annual training is done early in the summer season as people start looking for ways to keep cool.
Crews are practicing different methods and maneuvers with a dummy so they can be as familiar with the procedures as possible.
"We're an all-hazards department," RFD Captain Caleb Feine said. "Depending on what the call is, we have to be skilled and trained in everything, so this is just us working for the city."
Swimmers are advised to stick to their own comfort levels and follow all safety procedures, such as wearing a life vest.
