The Red Wing Fire Department battled a garage blaze Sunday night after lightning strikes were reported in the area. Fire Chief Shannon Draper said crews responded to a call at 9:32 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex located in the 2100 block of Village Drive. When the crew arrived, they found a heavy fire in six of the garage units and several vehicles on fire. Crews had to force entry into each of the units to fight the fires and stop the fire from spreading to other areas, Draper said. The fire was brought under control at 11:30 p.m., and crews remained on scene looking for hot spots and putting out small fires until 12:30 a.m.
