The City of Monticello will build its new fire station on the site of a former bowling alley at 101 Chelsea Road. The decision came Monday, May 14 when the Monticello City Council designated the 5-acre, city-owned property as the location of the new fire station. The action came two weeks after the city council decided to forgo a remodeling of the existing fire station in favor of new construction. The city council charged members of the fire department and city staff to explore sites for the new fire station. The 101 Chelsea Road site beat out five other city-owned locations, according to City Administrator Jeff O’Neill. O’Neill reminded councilors that architectural firms bidding on the fire station remodeling project determined that the city would achieve better value by building a new fire station versus remodeling the existing facility.
