The two finalists to become Rochester's next fire chief were announced on Wednesday night. According to a release from the city, Battalion Chief Eric Kerska and Deputy Chief Vance Swisher were certified by the fire civil service commission. Kerska has served in various positions with the department since 1994. Swisher joined the Rochester Fire Department in 1999 and has also been fire chief in Stewartville since 2014. An employee forum and final interviews will be held before a recommendation is made to the city council. Current Fire Chief Greg Martin will retire at the end of June.
