Minneapolis police say a 19-year-old California woman died after falling from the 10th story of an apartment building early Thursday morning. The University of St. Thomas confirms the woman - identified as Joia Simpson - was a freshman at the school. A release said Simpson was a native of Bayside, California who had been interested in studying business. The release said Counseling and Psychological Services and the Center for Campus Ministry are available for students, faculty and staff who need grief support. Firefighters and police were in the area of 10th and University Avenues at about 1 a.m. The Minneapolis Fire Department does not believe the death was a suicide or a murder.
