It's Fire Prevention Week. A time for everyone to visit their local fire department and learn more about how to keep themselves safe. Monday night in Byron, residents got some hands-on training. Kids were able to use a fire extinguisher. Eric Petersen with the Byron Fire Department said a lot of kids have seen them but not many have been able to use them. In addition to learning about fire extinguishers, guests were able to watch a live demonstration of a vehicle extrication. Byron Firefighters also gave truck and station tours and spoke with residents about how to protect themselves if a fire ever happened to them. They encouraged everyone to check their smoke alarms and make sure the batteries are good. They also reminded families to have an exit plan.
