An Alexandria man escaped from a mobile home fire early Monday morning, Oct. 15, after being woke up by his dog and he then alerted his neighbors in a nearby mobile home so they were also able to get out safely. Mark Anderson, a student at the Alexandria Technical and Community College, had been living in the mobile home at Viking City for about two weeks, according to Alexandria Fire Chief Jeff Karrow. Anderson was sleeping in the living room area because he was remodeling the bedroom and bathroom areas. The fire happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. "His little dog woke him up and he (Anderson) ran over to his neighbors to the south... and pounded on their door," Karrow said. Three people were living in the other mobile home — Dylon Holmquist, Ulysses Rengel and Raven Taylor — and they were able to get out without getting hurt, Karrow said. Their home had a working fire alarm but it was not going off because the smoke had not yet reached it, Karrow said.
