More than a year after the Rochester City Council approved the purchase of a new ladder truck for the fire department, the truck is just weeks away from hitting the road.
Before the truck arrived in Rochester, the department put together a committee of firefighters, captains, motor operators and the department’s mechanic to make sure the ladder truck would fit the specific needs of the Rochester Fire Department. The new truck will replace the department’s two-decades old ladder truck.
The new truck features enhanced safety equipment, a customized cab and a 107-foot ladder. All the warning lights are LEDs and the scene lights — now 12-volts, don’t require a generator to run. Mounted on the front of the truck is so-called brow lighting, which gives emergency crews the ability to light up car crash scenes and neighborhoods.
