The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association says an alleged arsonist who set fire to the front door of a home in the neighborhood may have done so because of signs placed in the front yard. The association said the home on the 600 block of Sixth Street Southeast had a Black Lives Matter sign and a Sen. Paul Wellstone sign. Both signs were burned, along with the wooden door and frame. Both the homeowner and a police inspector suggested the campaign signs as a possible motive. "While yard signs are sometimes stolen or tampered with in election season, arson is a significantly more troubling crime," the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association wrote in a release. "To set fire to a home and yard signs with gasoline is alarming."
