Mankato firefighters' efforts to protect homes and community members is reflected in its recent ranking.
The city's Insurance Services Offices rating was recently upgraded from a three to a two.
High ISO ratings, like the city of Mankato's, indicate that a community's fire response system is prepared to prevent and respond to incidents, which can result in lower fire loss.
Over 43,000 cities nationwide receive an ISO rating, but only four percent rank '2' or better.
City Manager Pat Hentges credits a number of things for the high rating, including the city's partnership with Blue Earth County's 911 dispatch.
Even with the high rank, Hentges says he expects continuous improvements in public safety services, including expanded training for employees and volunteers.
