An early morning fire burned a jet ski rental business near Nisswa Thursday, Oct. 18.
Brainerd Fire Chief Tim Holmes said crews received the call just after 2 a.m. and responded to heavy fire and smoke at Dockside Rental on the southwest side of Round Lake, in Unorganized Territory between Brainerd and Nisswa.
Holmes said flames burned on the east side of the building, with heavy smoke throughout, when firefighters arrived at the scene. Crews used extensive overhaul to put the fire out, Holmes said, as the building was originally constructed in the late 1930s and had a lot of older construction elements inside.
Firefighters cleared the scene by 7 a.m., Holmes said, and the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Holmes said suspicious activity is not suspected.
Brainerd firefighters were assisted on-scene by the Nisswa Fire Department, Nisswa Police Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office and North Memorial Ambulance.
Nisswa Mayor Fred Heidmann owns Dockside Rental but could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
