The Wykoff Fire Department now has the funds it needs for a new firefighting hose and hydrant adapters. The funds came in the form of a $2,000 public safety grant from Minnesota Energy Resources, in partnership with Wisconsin Public Service Foundation. Wykoff Fire Department was one of nine emergency response agencies throughout Minnesota to receive the grant. The fire station got $2,000 out of the $11,500 dollars going to eight other emergency response agencies. A new firefighting hos and hydrant adapters allow firefighters to have the best equipment to put out fire and save lives. "The hose being replaced is 40 years old and failing during its hose testing. And the adapters we have, [there are] other surrounding cities that we don't have compatible fittings for," said WFD Firefighter and Grant Writer Jonathan Eickhoff. To qualify for a safety grant, emergency response agencies have to show that the equipment or training they need is part of an effort to improve public safety.
