The Mound Fire Department applies every year for the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefights grant and hasn’t received one since 2004. However, Mound Fire Chief Greg Pederson was pleased to share with the council at their Sept. 11 meeting that they were approved for a grant in the amount of $58,934.
The condition for the award is that the city was required to contribute a cost match in the amount of $2,946 of non-federal funds, or five percent. “That’s not a bad return,” Mayor Mark Wegscheid commented.
As written in the grant approval letter that Pederson read aloud to the council, “The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters grant program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighters and the personnel against fire related hazards.”
